How to be recognized in your community

One way to ensure the success of your business is to get recognized in your community.

It may seem surprising, but fame doesn’t happen by accident most of the time.

Although it may seem like some people have an “overnight” success, that overnight success is likely the result of years of planning.

If you want to be recognized in your community, there are a few you can do to propel yourself in that direction.

* Online and offline advertising: do not limit your advertising and your press releases solely to the network.

Instead, send out local press releases and advertise in local publications, as well as on television and radio.

* Be active on the Internet – You can make yourself known in your local community by being very active on Facebook with the people in your area.

Join local Facebook groups, post local-focused articles on Facebook, and mention local people and businesses on Instagram.

* Attend and sponsor local events – Start making a point to go to local events.

Don’t just go to them, but when the topic is appropriate, sponsor the events as well. The more people hear your name and connect your business with your experience, the better.

* Join local business organizations – Don’t just be someone who assists things, but be someone who joins and runs things. All local business organizations need people to keep them running.

As they get to know you, start volunteering and helping in these organizations.

* Be a resource for others: Be open to interviews with the press and offer yourself as an expert on your topic so they know that they can call you when they need information about it.

The more often others cite you, the more people will start to see you as an expert.

Also, the better known you are locally.

* Publish a book: A good way to become a little local celebrity is to publish a book and use it as a business card.

Hold a local book signing and send out a press release about the book and the signing.

Send a free book to the library and other shopping centers if appropriate and on the right topic.

* Once you’ve really gotten involved locally, it’s time to start organizing your own local events.

In fact, you can even make your way onto the local scene by hosting a local event that you market and promote very well in a way that attracts the attention of those pulling the strings of the community.

* Speak at local events – Send a sheet to your local groups and organizations so they know that they can turn to you to speak locally and on what topics.

If you do, please provide links showing your speaker credentials and examples of speeches and talks you have given in the past.

* Volunteering – Although volunteering with business organizations has already been mentioned, another way to get noticed in your community is to choose a charity and volunteer for it as much as possible.

If your audience likes that charity, too, so much the better.

At some point, you will know that you have succeeded because people like the press will start calling you more often for information, and you will become a regular guest for lesser known events, plus they will ask you to speak more often for clubs and organizations based on your experience.
